April is an important month at Trumpet Behavioral Health. It’s Autism Awareness Month. The shared movement is impactful and far-reaching. Each year, new understandings are shared with those impacted by autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and education and policy reform are brought to the wider public.
At Trumpet Behavioral Health, we see the statistics come to life because these numbers include the children and families we care for.
Through autism awareness, more children are receiving the diagnoses they need to get help. Still, this can be stressful for parents at first. Nicole Sorce, Director of Client Support Services at Trumpet Behavioral Health says that her team tries to imagine how they would want to be treated, if it were their child.
“Talking to a family who just doesn’t know what to do next can make a big impact,” she says. “Our goal is to provide hope.”
Through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), individuals with autism experience improvements in communication, social relationships, play, self-care, education and employment. ABA is the only autism therapy endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General, and it is covered by insurance. The therapists at Trumpet Behavioral Health deliver ABA therapy with expertise and compassion.
Josh Sleeper, BCBA and Senior Vice President of Operations, encourages autism awareness and shares Trumpet’s overarching message of care. “Putting clients first is more than just a core value for us at Trumpet, it is part of our culture. We view it as an honor to be a part of our clients’ lives.”
