Educator Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Program Monitoring and Evaluation

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the framework that Trumpet Behavioral Health uses to build programs that will enable each student on the autism spectrum to maximize his or her greatest potential. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other educational staff to identify behaviors that need to be either reduced or increased in order for children with autism to experience success in the school environment. Target behaviors for children with autism are usually identified within the following areas:

  • Social
  • Communication
  • Language
  • Academic
  • Self-help/daily living
  • Vocational
  • Recreational/leisure
  • Emotional/behavioral

The ultimate goal is for students on the autism spectrum to become independent and successful in all aspects of their lives, leading to a higher quality of life once they exit the school system.

In order to achieve this goal, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) from Trumpet Behavioral Health use data in a systematic way to assess target behaviors in children on the autism spectrum, develop goals, design and implement effective autism treatment interventions, and consistently measure, monitor and evaluate progress.

Behavior Data Collection

Data collection is an essential component of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), for evaluating and informing treatment plans and objectives. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) at Trumpet Behavioral Health train school staff and consultants to accurately record data using one or more of the following methods:

  • Frequency recording
  • Percent occurrence
  • Trials to criterion
  • Levels of assistance recording
  • Partial or whole interval recording
  • Momentary time sampling
  • Duration recording
  • Rate recording
  • Latency recording
  • Discrete categorization (coding)

Behavior Monitor and Evaluating Progress

Data are graphed and analyzed on a regular basis at Trumpet Behavioral Health. This analysis helps the educational team determine whether current programming and interventions are effective in helping the student with autism. As a result, the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) can quickly intervene when a student isn’t making sufficient progress on his or her goals and objectives. At the same time, the data analysis ensures that the appropriate strategies are in place and that the student will meet progress milestones. In addition, Trumpet Behavioral Health trains school staff on recording, monitoring and evaluating data so that high quality Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programming will continue to be provided once our services are faded.
